What is ultraclean ventilation (UCV)?

ECO-flow ultraclean

Indoor air is full of bacteria, even in an operating theatre. Bacteria can settle on open wounds during surgery and cause infections that delay recovery or may even be fatal. UCV dramatically reduces this risk.

According to the British Orthopaedic Association, over 200,000 hip and knee replacements are carried out in the UK every year. In the UK, ultraclean ventilation is required for all orthopaedic surgery, as detailed in HTM 03-01 (2021) guidelines.

Ultraclean ventilation (UCV) is an essential step in maintaining a high quality of air in the operating theatre and therefore controlling the risk of surgical infection for dramatically improved patient outcomes.

Ultraclean systems are equipped with HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters, which prevent recirculation of bacteria by removing 99.97% of airborne particles sized 0.3 microns or larger.
