Captain Stevens, ready for take off!

Captain Stevens

MAT Design Engineer Andrew Stevens recently visited Gibraltar to survey an operating theatre in preparation for installation of an MAT ECO-flow ultraclean ventilation canopy (UCV). This phase sees the addition of three theatres to the facility (one conventional, one UCV and one endoscopy), as well as recovery, and six patient bedrooms. We were brought into the project by our partner, Bender UK.

Space is at a premium in Gibraltar, so the hospital is being built on a floor of an existing building. Other floors are taken up by retail units and office space. Half the hospital is already up and running, including an MRI scanner and a dedicated dental hospital. It's the only MRI scanner on the island - previously, MRI scans had to be carried out in Spain, so the new scanner is a huge step forward and will generate income for the hospital.

Our equipment will be sent down to Dartford. From there, it will be transported across the Channel, and then driven all the way to Gibraltar. We look forward to sharing more photos of Andy's next visit when he returns to the hospital once the UCV has been installed for a final check prior to commissioning.
