At MAT, we have a great team of people, and we are growing all the time! You might not meet everyone, but behind the scenes, we are all working together to make your project a success.
We celebrate everyone at Medical Air Technology, but we thought it would be fun to shine the spotlight on certain team members, so you can learn more about what it takes to work at MAT and what people like so much about being with us.
Roisin joined MAT in 2016 as a Purchase Ledger Clerk. We were only her second employer within accounts, and we don't show any signs of letting her go any time soon! In 2019, she was promoted to Assistant Accountant, in 2021 Project Accounts Manager, and then in 2022 she became our Finance Manager. This means that Roisin has had experience in many accounts roles in MAT, giving her a fantastic overview of the company.
When she first came to MAT, Roisin was working through her Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification. With MAT's support, she completed her AAT exams and has now also finished her Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA) exams, achieving outstanding results at each level.
“Right from my first day at MAT, when I was just starting out in my accountancy career, I have had so much encouragement. I really appreciate the investment everyone here has made in me, from supporting me through my studies to recognising and celebrating my achievements each step of the way. I now head up a brilliant team – Julie, Susan and Karen – and learn more from my mentor Barry every day. Thank you, MAT!”
Mark has been with MAT since 2015, starting as a Junior Service Engineer. He quickly progressed to Service Engineer then Senior Service Engineer, which is the role he holds now with our facilities management division.
His job involves travelling the length and breadth of the British Isles servicing, installing and commissioning ultraclean ventilation systems, validating clean rooms and critical care ventilation systems, and training new Service Engineers. Each day is different, and Mark particularly enjoys it when the pressure is on to find the solution to getting theatres back up and running and compliant following a shut down.
“I recently worked with my colleague Jack to commission the new ECO-flow Stealth units at Wansbeck General Hospital. Jack and I started with MAT at the same time, so it’s always great when we are on the same job, sharing our positivity and enthusiasm. This was a full turnkey project, and it was very rewarding to be part of it from start to finish, seeing everything through to a successful handover.”
In 2013, Lee joined MAT as a member of the warehouse team, responsible for assembling our ECO-flow ventilation canopies. It didn’t take long before we recognised his potential, and he was put in charge of developing the warehouse team and creating the world-class R&D and assembly areas that play such an important role in our business.
In 2020, Lee became part of the Senior Management Team as Operations Director. He is a great example of how hard work, skill and dedication can take you right to the top at Medical Air Technology!
“As soon as I joined MAT, I knew that this was the place I wanted to be to take my career to the next level. Steve and the rest of the senior management team were a huge support right from the start, recognising my potential and helping me to develop it. I am really proud of what I and the company have achieved and look forward to what the future holds for us both.”
Megan has a BEng in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Biomedical Engineering, both from the University of Liverpool. She joined us a Project Engineer in January 2023 – not long ago, but we can't remember what it was like without her! Working upstairs with Adrian and the Contracts team, Megan is responsible for coordinating with the client and sub-contractors once a project starts to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
Megan really enjoys learning 'on the job' when she visits sites and sees at first hand all the different trades who are brought together to make our projects a success. They are always keen to pass on their knowledge, which Megan is then able to take with her to the next project.
When asked which project particularly sticks in her mind, Megan says, "The refit of the existing UCV canopy at Birmingham Children's Hospital was the first project I got to see from start to finish. It had a short programme, which highlighted the importance of all the trades working collaboratively. I'm sure the next installation at the hospital will be even more challenging, as it's double the work in the same timeframe!"
Alex Hewitt joined us in 2019 straight from university, initially as a Junior Project/Design Engineer. Just a few years down the line, the 'Junior' is no longer part of his job title, and he's a skilled and experienced Project/Design Engineer who plays a really important part in our delivery of successful projects.
Alex's role is to assist at the sales stage and with technical queries and drawing work on live projects. He is currently developing his technical knowledge and hopes to take on design responsibilities for live projects in the future.
One of the things Alex likes most about MAT is that every day is different, with several projects on the go at any one time. He also enjoys having to come up with practical and technical solutions to issues.
The operating theatre department turnkey refurbishment at Wansbeck General Hospital is the standout project for Alex to date. It included everything from MEP to builder's work throughout the whole department. The added challenge of carrying out the work in phases while the department remained operational made for an exciting project from start to finish.
Would you like to be part of our team? If so, we would love to hear from you. We are always on the lookout for new people to join us and help take MAT to the next level – and you could be that person!
